Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in hot water until combined (batter will be thin).
  5. Pour evenly into pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Frost with chocolate buttercream or your favorite frosting.
